Now

That which is neither the past nor the future. Now is equal to plancks time.

Planck Time : tp = 5.39 × 10-44 s

Before we could get to present, lets understand past and future.

Past is the one we experience through our sense organs. What we see through our eyes or hear through our ears are events that happened some time in the past. light and sound travels with some fixed velocity. we may say all our physical experiences are from the past.

we may at times see the past in our dreams. so past is also from our memories (which in-turn are from our experiences).

Future happens in our mind. it is the one that is projected from our past experiences and experiences are gained through our sense organs.

Now. Now is neither past nor future (similar to absence of light being darkness).

Dictionary Definitions of Now: That which is immediate or in the present time.

So, what could the words Immediate or Present mean?

Philosophical Perspective (From Swami Vivekananda): Present is the duration between an inhalation and exhalation. There is no past or future ( when our body looses the ability to breath).

Physiological Perspective: That's approximately linked to the rate of breathing. Could be 10 secs for a human being at rest (it can increase or decrease depending on the activity we are involved in)

We can go on... Now is the time between our birth and death, live one day at a time... it goes on...

So, how small is now. Scientifically, it could be equal to plancks constant.  Its could be in terms of energy (plancks constant) or space (plancks length) or time (plancks time) or mass (plancks mass).

Spiritual Perspective: The state of being in which there are no sensory inputs or mental thoughts. The state of meditation. the state of stillness.  the state of experiencing  plancks time. the eternal state of bliss or being one with atman.

In being one with atman may be we can travel through this universe back and forth in time effortlessly or getting to understand that, being in this physical form, absolute now is an impossibility. This could be meaning of awareness.

May be we can say NOW depends on form, sensory inputs and state of mind (human, tree, bacteria, muon etc).

If we have to be in the NOW, we got to be space or time or mass or energy. Everything is derived from us.

Ha ha. That's more like saying "You are God"

Note:

Sensitivity of our sense organs may also be considered as another perspective towards "Now". Eyes have approximately 15ms sensitivity (24 frames per second for a movie). Ears have 30 ms sensitivity (reason why we hear echo). Touch should also be within 30ms limit (experiment by moving a finger across a candle flame).  Taste and smell should also be within the same range of 15 to 30 ms (not sure of how to conduct an experiment for this).

So "Now" could be a time between 15 to 30ms range from the perspective of sense organs.

Purpose of Death

Purpose of Life. That is what i was searching for.

Some seem (claim) to know.

Some claim to guide us to know.

May be i have not found the right person to listen to or am not mature enough to understand even if it was explained in the best of the ways possible. lets leave it to benefit of doubt.

But, the restless and curios mind keeps searching within. The mind proposes to relook at the question and over prolonged internal arguments - the question was rephrased to "Purpose of Death".

So, what is death?
Our heart stops pumping blood, lungs stop exchanging molecules or some other part of the body refusing to collaborate with other organs.

Why death?
The all powerful nature could have created life without death.
Evolution says ( i am made to belive that) the purpose of life on earth is reproduction; followed by survival.

What is the significance of reproduction?
The experiences of a living species is so vast. The essence of all the experience is sorted, filtered, compressed etc etc and stored into a Gene. The 20+ years of experience of an individual is stored in a gene, gets born with basic traits and gains new experience and this process contintues. That could be the significance. So, what?

So, what?
I am not sure of why this has to be this way?

Nature gives a glimpse of death everyday. In the form of sleep. In the form of dreams within sleep. Rearranging and storing experiences in our brain, muscle, cell and gene. Waking up from sleep everyday for a new set of experiences.

Life is not much different. it is just few more days, months and years. Just that the offspring wakes up with the new body and lives in parallel (grand parent, parent, child..) with our current experiences.

Not sure if i would understand Purpose of Life. But, one thing is getting clear. If the offspring has to be healthy, better prepare our gene with good actions and good thoughts.

What is good (or bad)?
This is another question. We may not get a straight answer. We may have to rephrase the question.

Rider:
Complaining about the current generation is meaningless. We know "who is responsible?"

Food for Thought

When to eat?  What to eat?  How to eat? and Should we eat?.

The questions that haunted me for long.

Having born in an environment where eating non-vegetarian was a norm. During the days when i used to eat non-veg food, i dont involve in cutting or even cooking as it squeezes the heart a little.

The concept of jeevakarunya got in. One fine day the neural connections rewired themselves and converted me to become a vegetarian.  Then somebody said, plants are also living things. I did not find a choice and hence remained a vegetarian for almost 19 years.

In the mean time, i had been hearing of people who lived only on water, my guru living on one time food, long duration fasting etc

The concept of palio diet gave another perspective. My understanding of palio diet is that; some one observed carnovorous animals (tigers, cheetah etc) that eat once in a day and are fit and active. Herbivorous animals (elephants, cows etc) are generally fat and found eating most of the time.

Recently i came across Nature Cure - http://akarma.life/akarma-health/ in coimbatore. Just by adjusting food habits the common ailments of sugar, BP, diabetes etc are gone. Even chronic head aches and asthma. Have personally interacted with them and have just about altered my diet plan. The plan is more or less - No Oil - No Boil - Hence No Kitchen.

You may check out this video for more details.

During one of our tekmonks sharing session, this topic came up and one of them made a startling remark.  "Extending jeevakarunya on these lines, i think we should not eat any form of seeds. The seeds are their children. They grow and keep the species alive".

So, we are just left with some fruits and vegetables to feed upon.

May be some day, some one would make another observation and we might start living on water and air alone.

May be that is why we are asked to enter into deep meditation for years togather.

Looks like anything a human being does, leaves a disturbing footprint for other species. May be the purpose of humanity is to disturb the ecosystem or maybe we are the highest form of intelligence which is supposed to sit and enter into a trance. Not sure why we should have a physical form? May be someday we would realize.

No Childs Play

Lets begin at the end.

"Children need not play". They have better things to do. Play as in todays context is destructive to children and society.

The moment this thought occured, i thought, may be i have lost all faculty of mind and got insane. A few moments later, once the distrubances in neural connections gradually settled down, realization started to dawn.

Now lets move on to the beginning.

"Once I complete my work, my teacher allows me to play. so i complete my work as fast as i can and go on to play". This was a casual statement from my daughter when she was some 6 years old. This happened atleast 2 years ago.

"Toys, reading books, listening to stories are not a must for children". A statement made by a minimalist and mother of 2 while sharing her experience. This happened a few months ago.

The above 2 incidences got registered in my mind. Without any prejudice or judgement.

A few weeks back, during a workshop with children, i happened to notice that the children were longing and waiting for a break... Felt bad for not being able to motivate and handle a group of them. May be i should find a way of making things interesting. maybe integrate play within the session. so many ideas...

As usual, with a worried mind and a not so sound a sleep, the first statement that flashed through my mind when i woke up was "Children need not play". Why? I asked my mind.  Brain and Mind got into a war to justify this statement.

A few seconds later, the mind proposes the following.
In the earlier days of human evolution, children would just observe and repeat what theirs parents did. May be explore a little bit beyond that.
There was no concept of gathering food and staying in a specific place. It was a nomadic lifestyle. So, life was a play and every day would be new.
Children had to learn to feed themselves. They grow up and the cycle repeats.

Now that we have become gatherers and better still parents gather enough and more for the child until the age of 20 or even to the age of 30. some times more. for the child.

So. There is no challenge for the child. Boredom sets in.  Parents are too preoccupied with their own jobs. The jobs are too varied in nature (it was just basic survival skills that humans needed in the earlier days). The child does not have enough experince to understand what career to choose. Workplaces are different for parents and often not possible to work as a family.  No more joint families...

The way out to keep children occupied. Ask them to play. There is the opportunity knocking on the doors of commerical world. Sell them bats, balls rings, software games....  create competetion among them.. break the unity. In the name of expressing their passion towards the game, the eyeball industry sets in. The Televisions and digital content glue (gravity of photons) them to the chairs.  The spice of advertisements promote packed food. That food takes them to the noble practitioners of medicine. Expense of time, money and health for the family and child; all along the commercial chain.

In the process, energy is drained sufficiently and there would no room for productive work. What a beautiful way to end up in slavery. Not even realizing the process of enslavement.

What is the way out?

Lifestyle change.  Minimalism and Sustainable living practices may be adopted so that humanity would be humane and leave minimal footprint on this earth.

I hear people quote the famous poet Bharathiyar. To my kowledge, the great poet would not have thought of competition and winning. The play as he means would be for fitness of body and mind. May be he saw this coming..

Are Engineers Susceptible to Stress?

Take a walk!.  Thats what i do.. when stressed..  stress in the sense that... i intend or try to do something and the situation does not allow me to do so.. may be i dont have the conviction or whatever the inference is.

The interesting thing is.. after a walk... the stress takes a walk.. :-) and i am relaxed. so... who am i?... But the big I is not the topic for this blog.... it is all about sress and engineers....

I happened to take a walk on one such.. what else... a stressful situation..   The question that rushed internally was and is.. the title of this post.

Yes. I am an engineer... no no no. i as a person... holding an engineering degree certificate.. thats all. thats how i got my 12th certificate and my 10th earlier to that... The certificates were not earned.. they were conferred based on some vested interest of some one else.. I thought i was worth it... little did i realize then... how foolish i was and am...I am also part of I scratch you scratch community...

A sincere someone asked... a valid... very valid question.. "so, what have you engineered so far?".  in that sense, i am not an engineer and i cannot be stressed. so.. what else....

The train of thoughts...  random thoughts...  as it occurred...

As much as a "point" is for geometry.... "acceleration"  is for classical mechanics.... "velocity" is for relativity.. the "pulse" for a traditional doctor.... ofcourse modern doctors rely on engineered instruments to track the origin of the pulse in the name of stethascope.... The "stress at a point" is fundamental to a mechanical or civil engineer.   Not sure what is it for an electrical, electronics or a chemical engineer.. some say its all about electrons....

As a certificate holder of mechanical engineering, all i know is that... Stress at a point requires 9 numbers in a 3x3 matrix to specify it... further more... to understand it... and use it for prediction... may be thats what engineers do...it takes differential and integral calculus.. Who knows calculus? May be newton.. may be leibnitz... may be maxwells, gausses and feynmens... But not faraday for sure..  Had faraday tried to understand calculus... he might not have had the time enough to conduct experiments with electricity and magnetism.... (this is bad inference... may be...)

After all the random thoughts have subsided through the brain.... there was a nasty flash....

An engineer tries to recreate or duplicate nature. In the process, engineers have gone far away from understanding nature.....  the plants... the animals... the birds...  the air... the fire... the water... the earth... the sky....the social psychology.  How can an advanced engineering community live in harmony with nature?....  It seems to be a contrary... an Irony....

An engineers pursuit of understanding the stress of a physical object.... seems to result in exceeding the safe and yield stresses (ultimate stress for brittle materials ) of the environment.

Naturally .. nature will withstand the stress... what about us? engineers?  ... the lesser mortals.. ?

This reasoning aint self-defeating.... A realization or an opportunity for .... alas we all like to play with words... ...awareness engineering or mindful engineering.... dont forget... there is environmental engineering....

We love to pass the buck... the famous question... "Who kills Creativity?"... The most loved answer seems to be schools... and then the teachers.... we do not want to accept the fact that... the very reason being the parents themselves...  we dont accept. dont we?...

Some day... we engineers too might realize...

Note:
Dots were used very liberally in this article.. Just because, i did not know, when to put a comma and when to put a fullstop.. so....  thanks to the dots. though they are abstract, they seem to somehow connect.. to reality....

The Tek Monk

Who are you?
The question that makes us think, explore and reason enough to live for.  Our perspective,  couple of years ago for this question. A 2014 post - The hard part is to introduce onself.

The answer seems to be Tek Monk.

Tek Monk is an identity and a way of life. For the average and ordinary people.

Similar to a businessman, an entrepreneur, a startup founder,  social entrepreneur, social activist, Nomad, Banjara etc,

Who is a Tek Monk?
A Tek Monk is one who follows sustainable living, self-employed, a science entusisast, a researcher, a mentor and optionally an educator. The most important is to "walk the path of truth". Thats the identity.

What do you mean by Sustainable Living?
Sustainable living as per our understanding is to lead a life in harmony with nature and consume minimal resources. An ecology centric life.

Can we quantify minimal resources?
Quantification is a real challenge (seems hypocrytic) as it is very much dependent on the environment (urban, rural etc) in which we live and also subjective.

As of now we are considering earning/living within the income tax slab as our annual need. This should take care of the basic necessities of an individual like food, shelter, clothing, health and continuous learning. Anything more would go into research or payforward activities.

Why Self-Employed?
Every one is unique and would have a calling. So, being self-employed provides an opportunity to pursue ones dreams. It can also be seen as a spiritual journey. Living at the mercy of nature.

A group of Tek Monks may collaborate to form micro-ventures to share their expertise.

Why Science?
Nature seems to be a game based on some rules. Rules are revealed to the inquisitive minds. To play the game (to live in harmony), we need to understand the rules.

Science is a method of understanding some of the rules of nature ( of physical reality). Rules ofcourse  are revealed incrementally.

Why be a Mentor?
Assist others willing to explore and become a Tek Monk. We believe in collaboration and sharing.

Why be an educator. Why optional?
Sharing our knowledge with others helps in a deeper understanding of the subject. More importantly, the mixed audience would give different perspectives of the same subject.

Being an educator helps improve the expertise levels.

This is similar to "chicken and egg" paradox. An expert can be a good educator and being an educator helps build expertise.

Being an educator is considered to be a unique talent and hence left optional.

Why do you call it a Journey?
Nature reveals its secrets; Incrementally. The more rules (of nature) we know, the more we dont know. So, this is a continuous journey with pitstops. The pitstops are to refresh, reflect and rediscover oneself. The Journey is Life.

Money is necessary in this world. Where does it come from?
We earn a living by doing blue collar and odd collar jobs or by sharing our expertise.

For jobs other than green collar, the monetization basis for our man day/manhour rate is on a 3 day work week. Remaining 4 days of week are used for self-improvement, research and green collar jobs.

Green Collar jobs and research activities are taken up on a total voluntary model or based on food, shelter basis.

We are open to investments that are returnable or in a payforward model. The funds will be used only for infrastruture, research and to assist Tek Monks in skill development.

We do not accept donations.

Why these collar jobs?
For a Tek Monk, every job is a prime job. We wish to take up physical work as much as possible. It helps us keep our health and also utilize the energy consumed.

In situations where the nature of work is considered hazardous to self or ecology, we shall take an effort to minimize the impact. Human powered machines would be the first choice. Science, Engineering and Technology might help us convert blue collar to Virtual Collar Jobs.

The inspiration?
There are many. This is a collection of our experience from observing the lives of the likes of
K L Muralidharan, Puvidham Meenakshi, Thangavelu Ayya, Manikkam Anna, Felix Anna, Ankit Banjara.

Friends who wanted and made Aatrral happen.

More importantly, well wishers who prodded us with the deep question; Who are You?.

What it takes to become a Tek Monk?
This is a self-taught, self-certified identity. You may already be one.

We are taking an effort to put everything in writing.  Might take some time. In the meanwhile, you may talk to one of us who have taken up the Tek Monk Journey.

Any Road Map to embark on TekMonk Journey?
Its a didactic and level based self-learning process between being a monk and tek. 16 and above age group.

Monk 1: Get introduced to the concept of sustainable living  (a few minutes to few days)
Tek 1:    Earn your living and become self sustaining. This depends on skill gap.

Monk 2: Acquire skills for sustainable living (learn from experts)
Tek 2:     Learn the fundamentals of science and Technology (1 to 6 months)

Monk 3: Volunteer
Tek 3:     Attempt to solve real world problems or purse research in pure sciences.

Monk 4: Explore life of a Banjara
Tek 4:    Become an expert

The levels are self designed. You may seek assistance/mentoring from other Tek Monks.

How do we contact tekmonks?
Please send us an email (tekmonks@gmail.com) and one of us shall get in touch with you.

Proposed Logo.

Art of Nature vs Nature of Art

Am not a linguist, nor an anthropologist or a recognized philosopher. Which could mean that I fit into the profile of a layman.

So, this is a laymans inference of art made by humans. The paintings, drawings, architecture etc and how it could influence ecology?

We, as a family, happened to go on a 45 day (we did not plan the number of days). It just happened so. A 10000km, learning journey to the Northeastern states of India.  Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya were the states visited. The onward journey was from Coimbatore to New Tinsukia in Assam, a 4500 km and 78 hr train journey.  We lived mostly in villages and economically backward areas.

We also happened to visit Mowlynnong in meghalya which was declared cleanest village (2003) in Asia , the Live Root Bridges and Gompa in Itanagar

The return journey involved  stopovers at calcutta (Kali Temple and Science City), Bhubaneshvar (Konark and Puri Temples) and Vijayawada (Panaka Narashimar Temple)

When we observed the lifestyle of people, scripts, buildings of different places and their art forms, a suprising inference emerged out of the mind.

The observations - Starting from the Northeast to down south:
+ The scripts for the languages are straighter in the norteast (assamese) and becomes more and more curved as we travel through bengal (bengali), Mostly curves (Odiya), Only Curves (Telugu in Andhra) and a combination (Tamil).
+ The farm lands in northeast surronds the untouched forest areas. But as we come to south, it is more of cash crops and very minimal natural forests. The root bridges in northeast are a symbol of harmonious living with nature rather. How ever, the concept of sacred groves seem to be prevalant throughout.
+ The place of worship start with Plant and Nature in northeast, Idol worship in West Bengal and Odhisa  (they do have some resemblence with human form) and starting from vijayawada, the idols assume human form.
+ The buildings are more functional in northeast and becomes a little artistic as we cross orissa (as seen in puri and jangannathar temples) and become more artistic in Andhra (Kanaka Dhurga Temple)

The inference that came out of these observations were crazy and seemed irrational. But however, this is the summary.

"When people get more and more artistic, it is an indication that they are moving far away from enjoying the beauty of Nature".

Be Happy - Just Like That

We had an opportunity to visit northeast states of India.

Since reaching Assam  on 2nd july, having interacted with some 200+ children from economically poor backgrounds and some 30+ families and observing some passersby, it was nice to see that most of them were "rich in happiness" and we're leading a contended life.

The question that arose was "how to be happy". More or less understood the reason from 2 different incidents.

One, after visiting a tibetian monastery in Arunachal, we wanted to buy a souvenir for some low budget. We identified an item which would cost somewhere around 50₹max (our economic perspective). We were surprised to hear that it costed 250₹. Our friend was shocked and could not resist asking for the reason. The prompt and instantaneous reply was "just like that".

The second incident happened during an interaction with children of age group 10 to 16. They were learning drama, vocals, craft and also the "science through life" program we were offering. When I asked  them why do they learn arts, drama etc; just to build a similar case for science, the quorous answer was " we just feel good"

That was the point of realisation. Be happy. Just like that.

drop-out and drop-in

In many ways, this article is important for me as a individual. may be for people who happened to read my previous articles as well. the torture comes to an end. not for me but for my friends. Friends who encouraged me to write.

I feel very, very happy. though i admit and understand that happiness or sorrow is just a state of mind, i just want to allow emotions to take over.

Why should i end writing? don't know. but there was a "message", an "intuition", people use different words. But the writing was clear on the wall. Just one last article and henceforth write only about science, science and science. nothing else.

My usual method is to write about something. in the whole of the article, one thing or the other seems to stand out and that becomes the title. But this time, as it was the last of the article on education, philosophy and entrepreneurship, i had to just connect the dots. so started this article with a title.

As i was writing this article, a few events unfolded and would wish to present it as it happened. The event itself happened to be the core of the idea that i was trying to communicate.

There was a call. it was from one of my good friend.

Am leaving the content at the end of this article. unedited. it is incomplete in every sense, but it is ok. some people say, do it right the first time. i keep trying. but somehow, it happens to be incremental. write, rub, write, reorg... until convinced

Here is the conversation with my friend.
Friend: i am planning to start a health and fitness center.

My mind: I know you have been working on it for the past 10 years. you are a living example. have reduced from 115 kgs to 75 kgs. cycling as a hobby. regular workouts and food freak. i could still recall inviting him once to our home in bangalore. he happened to travel all the way from Coimbatore, carrying a food basket. On the breakfast table, he opened it. it felt like....... (you may fill in the blanks)

Friend: During these years i had many unanswered questions. in fact a thousand of them. Was confused. But recently i seem to have got to the core. had done some intensive research and this idea seems to fit. But still, i would like to validate with a few people who wish to give an audience.

Me: I would like to attend your program. when is it?
My mind: I am not bothered if he is a doctor, his educational background, what is the certificate that he carries? He has lived it, experienced it. what better teacher or mentor can i ask for.
Me: I too had been struggling like you to understand science. To fit kinetic energy into the scheme of things it took 4 years. and it took another 2 years to understand that acceleration is core of the idea. once we begin from there, whole of science becomes comprehensible. the reason for newton apple story becoming so famous. we happen to remember the story and leave the concept alone.

Friend: You have been into teaching? how should i structure my session?
My Mind: What is there to prepare? you are just going to share your experience. you can answer most of the questions that are raised. with examples. spontaneously.
Me: First 10 min is important. How much time people are gonna sit? what is the objective? what is your experience with health and fitness. The remain part of the time will evolve into a unique experience.

The same topic on another day, different audience, different questions. does not matter. It will sure be as interesting as the first session. lively.

I can't wait to attend his program. we got to wait for good things. it seems to happens that most of the time, . i am looking forward to have a great experience.  From a master.

There is nothing outside my boy (girl). Everything is within us. It is no more inside-out. it is outside-in. a master leads you 'in'. rather drops you inside of you. drop-in.

what a way to end? no. no. just drop-out and drop-in.

In case you are interested to know what i was writing before i got the most important call
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have heard many stories of dropouts. The most famous being Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. All stories point to one thing. They dropped out of education system and dropped into; rather immersed themselves into learning. That's definitely learning for life.

I have not taken examples from my hometown. most of us are drop outs. Mentally. Not physically.

We respect our society. we respect our parents. Children seem to be more magnanimous. They sacrifice and compromise for the sake of elders.

People think we don't have courage. not really. pick any child at random, listen and we will not only hear it. we will feel it. I have. "Appa likes it", "Amma said", "The child next door does it", "A cousin does it",...

Moral stories may be the cause. May be because they are taught only in schools, it is applicable only for school students. It is not in syllabus for elders.

Just take a look at the road. choa's. i dont want to talk about corruption and get myself into trouble. it does not exist. i am afraid.

But we want every child to observe strict discipline, be perfect, excel in every field, nothing less than a 100....

The situation in higher studies is not much different. just about crossing teens. recognized as majors by age. another 3, 4 or 5 years of strict obedience. most of the energy is spent in sitting, for most part of the day. Sitting is most tiring activity for youngsters. body and brain does better only when it is used. May be because we live in a mechanized world, we want it sparingly used. We drain all the energy and push them to perform. Ironic.

With that said, the major reasons for drop out.
- Every one is unique. this leads to interest mismatch and not lack of interest.
- The quotient variation. Intelligence, Emotional, Creativity and Memory. Personalization is the key.
- Assessment driven learning. it should be the other way. Self-assessment.
- Attendance and monitoring. Kills self-responsibility and self-esteem.

May be we have a solution. at least for "majors" moving into higher education. for those interested in learning. we have access to best of the teachers from across the world.

All you need is an internet connection and a some kind of device with which you can view and program. You may have the device on a desk, on your lap or even on your head (head mounted devices). Virtual and Augmented reality are already available. its only a question of affordability. Start with wikipedia or you tube. Depends on whether you like text or visual

That's all fine. What about the "certificate". ok. Maybe register with a distance learning program. We will require them for syllabus, exams, practicals and projects. With proliferation of internet, distance learning is not distant anymore. Rather it is closer.

Days are not far away. Learn from different resources. for example, khan academy tracks the complete history. they are issuing badges. how many exercises you have solved, how many chapters you have completed, what is the topic that you last learned.

Looks like we just send this link and people can make out our interest levels, duration of learning, approach, almost everything. including your behavior. They are mining data.

Even IIT has certificate courses. Once we have collected sufficient credits, some organization may even provide a degree certificate.

How to Hack Creativity - Interview with Self

Some much with so less. Just 15 Secs Video

One of my friends sent me this link and this made me think. rather i should say wonder.

But why did this make such a deep impact on me?  It has to do with what i am doing. let us just go ahead with this; on a lighter note.

Just a hypothetical interview with myself. When no one is there to ask questions, better ask ourselves. A hack from "Six thinking hats" of Edward Debono

1. Question: What is the nature of your business?
Answer:   Education, Research and Entrepreneurship
Critic:      Well, you don't seem to have focus.
My View: I am not able to distinguish between all three. They are inseparable. did my best to explain it in "The story of a tagline".
Hacked from: From personal experience.

2. Question: Whom do you think is your customer?
Answer:    Any one interested in learning. From school, college or industry
Critic:       Well. You don't seem to have a target customer
Answer:    If my view 1 is valid, this should be valid.
Hacked From: Euclid's Elements,

3.  Question: What is your administrative policy?
Answer:  A happiness centered organization
Critic:     Well. The whole world is talking about Professionalism, Smartness and Profitability.
My view:   A Happiness centered environment would be more creative.
Hacked from: 13 year old logan. Please spare 11 min and 13 secs. In fact the title was hacked from this kids use of the word "Hack Schooling".

4. Question: What is the road map for your institution?
Answer:  Establish an evolution based science park (Education), Create an infrastructure for tele- robotics (Research), Support for innovators (Accelerator)
Critic: You need a big tag and big money.
My View: There is always a way out. Take on a participative approach.
Hacked From: Rather than hacked, i would prefer to use the word inspiration. There are many inspiring stories of groups going on to create better homes, companies, villages, cities and even countries.

5. Question: How do you categorize your institution?
Answer: Social Entrepreneur. There are different "preneurs". Entrepreneur, Edupreneur, Techpreneur etc. I even ended up creating few more. The Studentpreneur and Teacherpreneur
Critic:    That is a tough game. Either be a for profit or a non-profit. This is midway.
My view: Money is required. But it is not the only requirement.

6. Question (based on question 3): What is your opinion on creativity?
Answer: The strategies are Think like an Inventor (Re-invent the wheel), Imagine as though the problem or solution is obsolete (make it obsolete) and more importantly just keep working with an open mind.
Critic: If things are not broken, don't try to fix it.
My View: Creativity comes from our experience and openness. So the core idea is to redefine the problem in the way we understand.

7. Question: How did you come up with this title?

If you have come this far, you would really appreciate the difficulty i go through in communicating to the world of what i am or my company is doing. It has been a long journey.

Why go that distance? for that matter, i had difficulty in introducing myself.  All that i could do was come up with an article "The hard part of life is to introduce oneself"

The question that i raised to myself was, How to be creative?. That eventually led me to ask the opposite question of what is not creativity (using our making it obsolete principle)?

So, this is where it took me. There were articles on the role of educational institutions, parents, teachers and organizations affect creativity.

How educational institutions kill creativity - close to 400 million views.

How Teachers kill creativity

How parents kill creativity

Whether it is parents or schools that kill creativity  ( books shown in the video are great ones)

How companies kill creativity

With that said. what is the lesson learnt?
I have considered unschool, deschool, alternate school, home school. Now, i have landed into "hack school". But a school in the current sense deals mostly with teaching and does not have much emphasis on research and entrepreneurship.

May be we should apply the principles of re-invent and make-it-obsolete.

homeschool, homeoffice..... what about home college? looks like it is leading somewhere...

Name of the business entity seems ok. Aatrral represents energy. The initial tag line was "Identify Potential. Create Value". After about 2 years, the tag line has evolved into "The temple of acceleration". More on this here ....  ("The story of Tagline"). As we evolve, we might change again.

May be we have not asked the right questions as yet.

The search continues........ I have to come up with something like the 15 sec clip (a hack again) that we began with.

Foot Note:
came up with this article as an after thought.

The story of a Tag Line

Aatrral Academy
         - The temple of acceleration

The standard procedure in a starting is a company is to have 3 things. A name for the institution, A tag line and a logo.

The tag line and logo are not mandatory. However, once in a while, someone asks for them and we have to have a convincing reason for not having it too.

The company name. we need to have one and should be unique for the purpose of government registration. Apart from being unique, it is good if it can convey the message of our business.

Aatrral Academy. We have a name. Aatrral meaning Energy in Tamil language. Academy goes with out saying. There comes my personal experience that "Every one is unique" and has a "potential". So, the objective of our institution is facilitate our members inherent potential (energy) or assist them to find theirs (if they have not found it yet).

On to the tagline, we began with "Identify Potential. Create Value" . This again extends the scope of our offering to learning, research or entrepreneurship. My strong belief is that these three are inseparable. A purpose driven learning would lead to value creation for the individual in terms of monetary and societal standing.

Time went on. close to two years. Over this period we have been into science history. Rather evolution of science. During the exploration it occurred that the core concept in science is acceleration and that is the reason why Newton-Apple story has become so famous. It is usual for us to remember the story and forget the concept. Thanks to Prof shankar Ramamurthi's video lectures from Yale. He goes on to emphasize that force is the central concept of science. once we understand that, most of science will be easy. The part that does not fit into the most being quantum mechanics.

There is the clue. but force again was having two concepts. Mass and acceleration.

In the course of writing an article on acceleration, it suddenly occurred, why is that newton had to wait for the apple to fall?

The possible answer. Out of all the concepts, when we start approaching science with acceleration as the central theme, the whole puzzle seems to fit in. That is the story of acceleration in the tag line.

And accelerator is another word used in the entrepreneurship parlance. so, we get a common word that signifies both.

We would have heard, work is work ship. To worship we go a temple. Temple also stands to represent the point of focus.

That's the story behind the tagline "The temple of acceleration" .

So, we have a name and tag line. What about the logo?

Have engaged an expert to come out with a logo based on the following inputs.
- Newton says acceleration is due to a force (and that is due to mass)
- Einstein says the that is fine, but force itself manifests as a space-time curvature
- The Galileo's Law of Inertia states "unless there is an acceleration, the body remains at rest or in uniform velocity motion"
- Philosophically speaking, change is the only thing that is constant. Change requires acceleration and hence acceleration becomes the key.

The logo is expected have a representation of space-time, the focal point and may be a spice of spirituality.

Giving the company a name took close to a week. The tag line took close to 2 years. Lets wait for the Logo. Sometimes even waiting for something is an enjoyable experience.

Science is simpler than psychology

It is so common to hear from students and parents that "i am not good in science. so am choosing arts, commerce, visual communication etc., as a career option"

Too good to be true. not really. lets argue.

The argument goes like this.

Scene 1: That is our friend Hachi from the famous Hachiko movie.

- Can we predict which way will our friend go? To the left, to the right or just turn around and walk back. There may be one too many reasons for our friend to choose an option. It gets almost unpredictable.

Scene 2: The financial market. Can we predict which way would it go?

Scene 4: How about an art something like this. This one of Escher's.

All these scenes above require very high level of skills. Skills like group theory, statistics, probability and more importantly creativity. Add to this the regime of chaos, fractals and self-organizing systems. Mind boggling.

Compare this with science.

Science deals with predictions of motion of inanimate objects. They don't think on their own. All we requires is the concept of acceleration and and a few mathematical tools like arithmetic, geometry and calculus.

With the advent of simulation software's, things have got much simpler.

So, can we say science is simpler than psychology?
